Classical Ballet
This is the cornerstone of the Ballet Society curriculum. We begin teaching children as early as age 3½ and progress them through specific skills and age-appropriate expression. From the learning of basic movement, to ballet positions, to pre-pointe and finally actual pointe work we produce young artists who often take their craft to the professional world of dance and teaching.
Contemporary Dance
Contemporary dance infuses a combination of methods from modern dance, postmodern dance, and classical ballet. The dance form examines the choreographic and performance process, often done in bare feet and with non-traditional costuming. This genre focuses on a deliberate use of gravity within the dance movement. Classes are available for beginning through advanced dancers ages 6 and up. All students are given the opportunity to showcase their talents in a year-end performance. Those who reach a higher level of achievement may audition for our Jazzart company.
Jazz
Inspired by the music and movement associated with popular culture, the jazz technique of dancing can be found in musical theatre, television reality shows, and general stage performance. Jazz has become popular over the last few years due to its increase in music videos, television shows, and commercials. Students gain an understanding of rhythms and stage dynamics. As the curriculum progresses, there is an increased emphasis on creating and developing new concepts and movement qualities in jazz dance.
