Summer Programs at Ballet Society
Summer 2013 Brochure
Throughout the summer, Ballet Society offers a range of programs for the aspiring pre-professional dancer and the budding ballerina alike. These classes feature professional instruction from special guest instructors and our highly skilled resident faculty. Enrollment for all summer programs begins in spring. Many programs fill up, so it is important to register early to guarantee placement and desired weeks of attendance. Call for specific details.
Summer Ballet Intensive
Ballet Society's Summer Intensive creates the opportunity for tremendous progress for the individual dancer. Each summer, our students have the opportunity to study with distinguished teachers of national and international renown who are instrumental in setting the standard for today's dancer. Daily classes are held in classical ballet and pointe, and are complemented with specialty classes from our master teachers in contemporary and classical repertoire, jazz, modern dance, and improvisation as well as specialty dance classes not available during the year. Weekly seminars in dance-related topics are presented by qualified experts. The intensive culminates in a performance showcasing the students in choreography set by our master teachers. Students may attend one, two, or all three weeks with placement preference given to those attending the complete intensive.
Young Dancers Workshop
This workshop for the serious young dancer is designed to improve technique and broaden the perspective of students by offering exposure to a variety of dance genres with carefully chosen guest instructors in addition to Ballet Society Director and teaching staff. Classes include classical ballet, pre pointe, variations, contemporary, jazz, pilates, body conditioning and dance-related studies. Students may attend one, two, or all three weeks with placement preference given to those attending the complete workshop.
Broadway Dance Workshop
Students build confidence and broaden their movement repertoire in this exciting program that stretches them technically and artistically. Three levels of each dance form are offered to challenge the students daily in musical theatre dance, ballet, contemporary, and tap. An informal studio performance for family and friends features dance routines from Mary Poppins learned throughout the week.
Dance Camps
For our youngest students, Ballet Society offers a half-day program where dancers explore movement, create stories through dance, make friends, and have fun with costumes and crafts. This is a program specifically designed to promote a love for dance along with a focus on health, strength, grace, and flexibility. A typical day at 'camp' will include ballet, tap, story time, music, drama, crafts and a snack. Parents and friends are invited on the final day to applaud their student's achievements, as they offer a special performance. Class size is strictly limited to facilitate personalized interaction between the dancer and teacher. 12 students per class, maximum.
Worship Dance Workshop
Discover how you can use dance as a means of outreach and ministry within your community. This workshop is designed to inspire and renew your passion for praising the Lord through worship dance, as well as encouraging you to use your talents and develop your skills and technique as a dancer. Classes are offered in ballet, jazz, modern dance, and choreography. The workshop begins each day with a scripture lesson followed by a time of guided Creative Worship accompanied by acoustic musicians. The workshop concludes with a free Worship Dance Concert where you can share with your family and friends.
